Wednesday's (8-6-08) 8-race card from Del Mar features a $140,095 Pick 6 carryover.
The Grade 3 Sorrento (race 7) for two-year-old fillies sprinting six and one-half furlongs on Polytrack will be my race of the day.
Chris Paasch has an uncoupled pair, #3 Cosmic Queen (6-1) and #6 STARDOM BOUND (7-2).
Cosmic Queen was a sharp wire job winner as the fav in her 4.5 furlong Hollywood bow, and the $320k purchase came back to finish solid 3rd as the fav in the $100k Landaluce. She sports a pair of local drills and attracts Gomez, but she might not want to go 6.5f and could help set the table for her more fancied stablemate, my top selection STARDOM BOUND.
STARDOM BOUND broke slowly and trailed by double digits in her 5.5f local bow, and she really got things going in the lane while missing by a nostril to McAnally 2nd timer Turtle Creek Babe. Note that Montana Fields, the show finisher from her bow, came back to graduate at 6-5 in Sunday's 6th race here (5.5f, 1:03.82).
Before that July 20th race was run, I thought it was going be one of the better juvenile filly sprints of the meet and had the top three finishers cold, noting after the race that STARDOM BOUND was a stakes filly in the making.
STARDOM BOUND is a maiden taking on winners, but that does not concern me at all, and I am hoping that it actually helps her price a bit. She is my strong top choice to graduate in the graded ranks.
Day 19 Horse du Jour: Race 7 - #6 STARDOM BOUND
Day 18: A pair of speed horse scratches changed the race shape in race 6th, and my top Classy Bay stalked the tepid pace for a half before fading to last.
Day 17: Top choice Stately Appeal was bet down to 2-1 from his 9-2 morning line and rallied from last to finish 3rd.
My Stats 2-0-0-1 (-4)
