Friday's (8-29-08) 8-race Del Mar card features East Coast shipper Cherokee Artist in the $100k El Cajon, but we will look elsewhere for the Horse du Jour.
The 6th race is an entry level grass route for three-year-olds and up, and #1 MALIBU CANYON (5-1) is the horse of the day.
MALIBU CANYON has a rising numbers pattern (synthetic sprints). Malibu Moon is an 8% 1st grass sire, and dam has tossed a trio of turf winners.
Carla Gains 26% 1st turf and 26% synthetic/turf. Probably the one to catch from the rail under Tyler Baze. He's bred to route as well, and note that he is not a need to lead type should another opt to go early.

Day 38 Del Mar Horse du Jour Unspoken Word (4.70-1) set the pace as expected, but just like so many of my horse of the day selections, she weakened in the lane and ended up a disappointing 5th.
