Saturday's (8-30-08) 10-race Del Mar card includes a $156,689 Pick 6 Carryover. The feature race is the Grade 2 Palomar Handicap for fillies and mare traveling a mile and a sixteenth on the turf, and #7 GOTTA HAVE HER (7-2) is my horse of the day.
I have always liked GOTTA HAVE HER, and she is an easy filly to get a handle on. She is 4-10 on the grass, and all four wins were off a layoff. Her winning pattern presents itself today, and she won at this course/distance off a similar rest last year.
Note that she has failed in her last 3 graded tries, but all three were 2nd time back regressions. Ten furlongs was too much for her last time, and she was a very troubled 5th in the Del Mar Oaks (G1) last summer. I like the steady once a week local worktab since July 25th.
Day 40 Del Mar Horse du Jour: # 7 GOTTA HAVE HER (race 9)
Day 39 Del Mar Horse du Jour Malibu Canyon did not grab the lead as expected from advantageous rail post, and he found a bit of trouble while just missing the place in a better than appears turf bow under Tyler Baze.
