Michael Dickinson, affectionately known as the "mad genius" told me today that Santa Anita took the low bid in their choice of a synthetic surface. The track lost a host of days earlier in the year due to rain wreaking havoc with the "all weather surface."

Santa Anita regrets taking that low bid. They should have gone with Tapeta from the start. The bean counters and clueless hacks running that place made a grave error trying to save a few bucks with a bargain basement surface.
