The first annual Racing Dispatch Charity Handicapping Contest went to Mersad Metanovic, a RacingDispatch.com contributor, California-based owner, and two-time National Handicapping Contest qualifier.

After four winners on Saturday's Travers Day card at Saratoga, three of which returned double-digit win mutuels, Metanovic held a $5.00 lead over Pat Cummings. Sunday's Del Mar card had only three mutuels for Metanovic, coming in consecutive races with Gem Proof, Majormotionpicture, and Tommy's Luck from races three through five.

Collmus charged back after just one success on Saturday that tallied $36.60. The Gulfstream Park and Monmouth Park announcer had six wins on the card: Toro Bandito (2nd), Majormotionpicture (4th), Tommy's Luck (5th), Lewis Michael (8th), Whatsthescript (9th), and Go Between (10th) to tally $81.40 for the day, enough to be just $1.40 behind Metanovic going into the last race of the day.

Only Steve Byk, host of "At the Races with Steve Byk" on Sirius 126 had a chance of catching Metanovic or Collmus. With $89.60 going into the last race at Del Mar, Byk's attempt at a dramatic fifth-to-first move rested on 16-1 longshot Bestdressed who came up short. Another outsider, Pictural, won the finale from Del Mar with Black Wolf second, horses that were not used by any of the three who had a chance to win.

All picks were submitted before the first race of the day. A last-second switch to react to the standings was not possible and Metanovic held sway.

They will receive $900 as a result of Metanovic's win.

We look forward to an even bigger contest next year! Thanks to all for participating.
