The third week of the Keeneland fall meet comes to a close after Sunday’s program and the featured event is the $150,000 Rood and Riddle Dowager for older fillies and mares at 12 furlongs on the turf. For more on that race check out the Race du Jour.

The 7th race is an $80,000 optional claimer for older fillies and mares who have not won three races other than maiden, claiming, starter or state bred races. A field of eight has been assembled for this event and there should be a decent pace thanks to the presence of #8 SAINT PEGASUS, who’s stretching out from a long series of sprint events. The morning line favorite is #6 KISS WITH A TWIST, who is dropping out of four consecutive stakes events for trainer Jose Fernandez. She has a win over a synthetic track but has never run over the Keeneland Polytrack.

#2 CAT HOP is another mare dropping out of three consecutive turf stakes races but unlike the aforementioned favorite, she has a win over this track. She has been sharp in her recent races against better company and the fact that she has handled this racetrack is very encouraging. Trainer Merrill Scherer has won with 25% of his starters over synthetic surfaces and he has two entrants in here. If this gal is available at or around her morning line of 5-1, she is a very solid bet.

DAY 13 HORSE du JOUR: Race 7, #2 CAT HOP

DAY 12 RECAP: Glee Club was inexplicably taken nearly a thousand lengths off the lead in the nightcap and closed to split the field.

MEET TOTALS: 11: 0-2-1

Good luck!
