Keeneland Horse du Jour – Day 3 (Sunday, October 5, 2008)
The first week of the Keeneland fall meet closes with Sunday’s program and the featured event is the $500,000 Juddmonte Spinster (GI) for older fillies and mares at nine furlongs on the Polytrack. It will be a significant prep race for the Breeders’ Cup Ladies Classic (G1) as it is one of only three preps for this division run on a synthetic surface. The other stakes race on the program is the Bourbon (G3) and it is a Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In” race for the Juvenile Turf in 20 days.
The Spinster brings together a number of fillies and mares who have proven they are perfectly capable over synthetic surfaces, including the talented #3 Model, a daughter of Giant’s Causeway who finished 2nd to Zenyatta two starts ago at Del Mar. #6 Little Belle is a Grade I winner over this track, #4 Carriage Trail a Grade 2 winner over this surface and #7 Jibboom another Grade II winner over this racetrack.
Another filly who has run three good races on this track is #2 INDESCRIBABLE. She was moved into the barn of trainer Bill Mott in mid-summer after a win in the Arlington Matron (G3). She was poorly spotted from there as she first ran in the Chicago Breeders’ Cup Handicap (G3) at seven furlongs, a distance far too short for her liking, then in two GI stakes races on dirt. She’s now back on a synthetic track and she has earned three of her four career victories on the “fake” stuff. Robby Albarado, arguably the hottest rider on this circuit right now, has the mount for Mott and the pace scenario in here would seem to play into her hands. At or around her morning line of 12-1 she is certainly worth a play.
DAY 3 HORSE DU JOUR: Race 9, #2 INDESCRIBABLE
DAY 2 RECAP: Society’s Chairman was away poorly and never factored into the decision.
MEET TOTALS: 2: 0-1-0
Good luck!
