Keeneland Horse du Jour- Saturday, October 11, 2008 (Day 7 of 17)

The Saturday program is headlined by the $500,000 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup and a terrific field has been drawn. We went into great detail on this race as part of our Race du Jour feature, which has a positive ROI of over $380 dollars at the meet!

The nightcap on Saturday’s program is a N1X allowance event at the Beard Course distance of about seven furlongs. A solid field has been drawn, and that’s something you can always expect from a Keeneland allowance event.

One of the best trainers on the grounds is Kenny McPeek and we’ve seen his runners do very well at this meet. He has #4 PERUVIAN HERO in this spot and this son of Peruvian is returning from a sizable layoff this afternoon. He’s only made two starts in his brief career and he had a significant excuse for his only defeat. Breaking from the 11 post in a 12 horse race he hopped at the start and lost all chance. He soldiered on nicely that afternoon to finish fourth in a very respectable effort. After arriving in McPeek’s barn he didn’t return to the races until June of this year but did so in fine fashion as he stalked the pace and pounced en route to a win by nearly two lengths.

McPeek has worked this guy steadily over the last month and a half and he lands in a race where his natural early speed will be an asset. Not only is there very little early speed in here, but the Polytrack has actually been playing quite nicely for speed horses this week.

DAY 7 HORSE du JOUR: Race 10, #4 PERUVIAN HERO

DAY 6 RECAP: Georgetown threw in his first poor effort on the Keeneland Polytrack as he never factored into the decision in Friday’s 8th race.

MEET TOTALS: 5: 0-2-0

Good luck!
