It's another challenging week in the 60 Minute Six as we're down to one from Belmont but will have a couple from Philly and Monmouth Park. Weather is expected in the region over the weekend and it could lead to some late changes and a possible scratch-ridden sequence. Catch the scratches before you put anything official together.

Leg E - Monmouth Race 8

Favoritism is going to be divided a couple of different ways here as many will focus on #1 MAX'S FIRST. He seems a bit of a trap to me as he was a suck-up second to an easy winner in a horribly bad field a couple of weeks ago. That was a Jersey bred event where the majority of the competitors were heavily raced, unaccomplished, and largely slow horses. this is a vastly different field as there are more lightly raced young horses including #8 COUNT BY FIVE. In his debut this son of Lion Cavern stalked the pace while wide, advanced around the leaders and kicked clear authoritatively to score by over eight lengths. That effort was at 6 furlongs but his first race against winners was at a mile last time out. He broke from the rail that day and went right out to the lead, but as the field reached the first turn he started to bear out terribly and entered the first turn in the five path. He was switched over to the inside by leading rider Jose Lezcano and settled in for the run up the backstretch. He was then under pressure the entire way and still held third gamely despite the quick early fractions. This horse will be very dangerous cutting back to 6 furlongs.

Leg F - Philadelphia Race 10

It's never a great idea to single a 13-race maiden but #1 O'GULCH will be an easy winner if he can duplicate his last effort. He raced wide the entire way, made a bid for the lead at the top of the stretch and was then caught late. He needs a more even trip here and should get it as he's re-united with Victor Molina. There's collectively very little talent in this field, so I'll be OK with being alive to a single.

There seems to be some flexibility with some of these races with some Also Eligibles and Main Track Only horses, one of which I include in my Pick Six play today. There also seems to be no guarantees at all, even though there has to be a single somewhere to fit it in under the budget.

Leg B- Delaware Park Race 8

This is the race I alluded to earlier with the Main Track Only horse in it. If #5 Supervision does end up going, it might take a couple of the other horses out of the play since they might scratch and, conversely, if Supervision does come out, the play will be less anyway since I will only go three deep in this leg. If it stays on the greenery, I do still like the horse Mario Pino rides (he is also named on #5) and that is #3 Gianna’s Princess. Her only career win was at this distance on the grass at Laurel last November. She stretches back out in distance after not succeeding at sprint distances in her last two.

Leg E- Monmouth Park Race 8

Here’s is the single we need to go with in the Pick Six sequence. #3 Salmon Run is on a run of success having hit the board in five consecutive races, although only one of those was a winner. Interestingly enough, all six of his lifetime starts have come at Monmouth Park and Castro was up for the last two tries, which resulted in thirds. The other horse which really intrigued me in here is #6 Lucky James, who won as first asking at this distance and racetrack on June 7. This just might be too big a jump for a second lifetime start. Definitely keep him in mind for the exotics, though.

LEG A- Belmont Park Race 6: #2,11
LEG B- Delaware Park Race 8: #2,3,4,5
LEG C- Monmouth Park Race 7: #5,9
LEG D- Philadelphia Park Race 9: #1,3,9
LEG E- Monmouth Park Race 8: #3
LEG F- Philadelphia Park Race 10: #1,7,8

TOTAL WAGER: $144

Leg C – Monmouth Race 7

I've used #2 Grape Cottage and #9 Ambience as a bit of a longshot in an evenly matched third leg of this exciting wager. Grape Cottage hasn't exactly been a model of success on the track but has faced the best competition of anyone else in the field. Based on the company she's kept, Grape Cottage must be used.

Almost everyone in the field is shooting Beyer Speed Figures in the 70+ range and #9 Ambience isn't much different. I'm focusing on the breeding with this daughter of Chester House, the 2000 winner of the Arlington Million, and has never tested the weeds herself. She has been close on the dirt when sprinting and now stretches out on the lawn. If the race comes off the turf, this one will still have a shot. It is just that, a shot, but the sequence remains rather tough in this third week of the 60 minute 6.

Leg D – Philadelphia Race 9

The Pha has blown-up the first two weeks of this wager; what that leaves for this week is up to you to decide. I'm using #1 Max West. The 8-year-old gelding is making his debut of the season over the site of his last victory, a September 2006 score over today's distance. Max West has an affinity for the Philadelphia Park turf course, which has been a winning trait the last two weeks of this wager. A return to anything near that form could put this warrior back in the picture frame. If he were to run a 78 as he did off the shelf in a ninth place effort last year at Atlantic City, that could be good enough for a win. There are question marks for all of them in here, so I'll go with the proven course veteran.

Leg A – Belmont Race 6: #2,7,10,11
Leg B – Delaware Race 8: #2,4
Leg C – Monmouth Race 7: #2,9
Leg D – Philadelphia Race 9: #1 (Off the turf use #6 Out of Ireland)
Leg E – Monmouth Race 8: #1,3,5
Leg F – Philadelphia Race 10: #1,8,9

Total: $144

Good luck once again in the 60 Minute 6!
