Suffolk Downs takes a leap and is laying ground rules for anti-horse slaughter within their racetrack. Said the VP of Racing, "If a horse goes from here to the slaughterhouse, that's completely unacceptable. That trainer won't be here."

I know Philadelphia Park has an office on the backstretch now supporting a program that takes horses that don't race anymore and retires them to farms and the like. This movement seems to be growing.
If I could keep on in my backyard, I would... we kinda owe it to the industry, ya know?
Somebody had to start, and while it would have been nice to see one of the really big tracks take the lead on this so that it got noticed more - good for Suffolk Downs. Who's next?
