Here is my response in an email:
... for someone who "couldn't care less" I find it quite ironic you would take the time to write a column about this 'not caring' and spew your negativity to your readers.
Horse racing dates back decades before almost all mainstream sports in existence today. A failure to appreciate what it has to offer only showcases the shortsightedness of columnists who creep out of the woodwork for a few weeks out of the year and pretend to know more about the sport than those who take the time to learn about it, and those who provide accurate tellings and portrayals of the game. This type of journalism belongs in the grocery store checkout line or within the pages of some politically slanted newsletter.
To add to the mess, you reference Big Brown attempting to go 3-0, which of course is completely inaccurate. Where is the journalistic credibility? You also reference Big Brown's corporate sponsorships, then pretend to applaud the X-Games and Ultimate Fighting which of course (note the sarcasm) have no sponsors either.
And to top it all off, your naive nature is exploited by negatively referencing Kent Desourmeaux's easing of Big Brown in the race, which to an informed journalist, was a reasonable decision. I have trouble digesting, let alone respecting, the opinion of someone who admittedly is disinterested in horse racing but is "interested" enough to analyze and write about it.
Your piece is nothing but a cheap shot so, please, spare me the flip-flopping.

Good job, these non racing fans make it easy, they are very dumb.
Well said, Travis.
This gentlemen exhibits all the tendencies of non-racing fans who are assigned racing beats by editors at third-rate newspapers.
Mr. Chimelis was unable to even read a program long enough to understand that Big Brown was not 2-0 seeking a (wow) 3-0 record but was actually 5-0.
His lack of interest in his job, and sports in general is made clear by his statement that he wouldn't have been moved by a Big Brown victory in the Belmont.
Somebody needs to re-assign him to the New England cow tipping beat, that's where he belongs.
