The way Kent gets off the horse and gives four rather cold pats to Big Brown neck was rather telling for me - seemed emotionless.
Pat,
Did you also notice the Dutrow staff seemed the same way when Desormeaux brought the horse in? It appeared that there was no urgency, no indication they were surprised by the outcome.
Here is what I put in my post-race column for the paper:
"Desormeaux dismounted and went to be weighed out, as all jockeys must do after a race. Someone observing the Dutrow crew handling the horse might have been surprised by what appeared to be a lack of concern over the outcome, a lack of urgency in their steps to cool Big Brown down in the broiling 93 degree heat. They went about their job as if leading an old dairy cow into a stall for her evening milking."
I really noticed the dismount and the emotionless parting of the Desormeaux and Big Brown - I said to Nick Tammaro that the result was borderline unexplainable - so what should we do - turn the page and hit the 12th race trifecta. Nick did. I didn't. Still, that brought some solace to the matter.
Well since this Goodrich character is no longer a player but pimps around in S&P options (oil?) and has no horses to train or ride or anything other than watch, I don't give a rat's ass what he thinks about the imaginary jockeys that ride his imaginary horses.
Everybody is an expert after they get out of the business, but why did they get out since they had all the answers?
