I don't think Curlin was cranked today... but he still won. I'm sure he also did not get much out of the turf race, so really, all in all, it was a solid effort.
I think Travis has summed it up very well. I had put this in the 'Out with a bang' post last night after getting home...
It was a very workmanlike effort. Curlin seemed to run as hard as he had to in order to win. The crowd was very appreciative of Curlin and gave him a nice ovation both before and after, but I have a hunch NYRA didn't get the turnout they were expecting. I would be surprised if they got more than 25,000, according to my annoyance meter. I think the 3rd Saturday with the no feature - feature outdrew today, which only proves that people do not care who is running or what races are being run. They plan their trips according to their own schedules.
NYRA did try with their promotion effort, but you can't force people to go. The weather looked suspect in the early going, but it turned into a very nice day around mid-card.
Regardless, it was a thrill to see Curlin run, babe.
