Here is a little more fuel for those who liked Casino Drive in the Belmont. Casino Drive easily inhaled this horse in the Peter Pan. Mint Lane dusted a less-seasoned horse Friday by going wire-to-wire. Come to think of it, it sounds like the Belmont Stakes! discuss this »

“He took all 12 of his horses away,” Motion said of owner Don Adam of Courtlandt Farms, who also bred Adriano. “It’s very disappointing, but I’m starting to recover. I’ll be sick for a while watching all the horses run in big stakes. We’ve won 19 stakes for him in the last few years." discuss this »

This horse was a mess. The dark bay son of Tiznow is a far from imposing, a rather diminutive horse, made even less attractive by a slathering of white equine perspiration. As if you’d taken a paint brush dipped in some glossy Sherwin-Williams white paint, and flung your wrists in the direction of the eventual Belmont Stakes winner. discuss this »

This is like loading the bases in the bottom of the ninth, down by three runs with a full count – and you strike out. It’s like driving the entire length of the field, making miraculous catches and effective jukes, only to miss the field goal. It’s missing the free throw or lipping-out the tap-in putt. discuss this »

I took the bait, I’ll admit it with no qualms. Given supreme confidence after his Louisville triumph that we could have the next Triple Crown winner in our great sport, I immediately made plans for a trip to Belmont during the first weekend of June. My confidence soared as Big Brown powerfully drubbed eleven overmatched rivals in the Preakness. discuss this »

I was involved in a rather heated debate with some racing friends recently when I proposed a legitimate case for why Big Brown would not be an ideal winner of the Triple Crown for a variety of reasons. I said Big Brown was good but not great, and they said I was "learning impaired." discuss this »

I have the pleasure of being at Churchill Downs for Oaks and Derby days, although I won't be sitting in front of the laptop for either. This is my first foray to Louisville for the big weekend and I'm hoping we can cash a few winners and make the trip even more enjoyable. I'm interested to see the early action in the Derby advance wagering as discuss this »

Once again, some of the Dispatch voices lend their answers to a host of thirteen quick-hit questions surrounding the Kentucky Derby. Who will finish fourth? Who will cause the most trouble? Who will finish last? We might not get them all right, but at least we give it a shot. All that and more in a Baker's Dozen of Derby questions. Good luc discuss this »

The morning line offered by Mike Battaglia from Churchill Downs once again appears with too many horses at odds much too low. A typical line should add up so that the odds equate to the percentage chance of a horse winning the race, plus the takeout of the pool, to equal a total between 115 and 120. For the past two years, Battaglia’s Kentucky discuss this »
